The class project assigned was to create a personal word press site in which we would post five hundred word summaries of our essays to. Included on the word press set was a link it to our class page the object being to generate site traffic. The first step was to create the word press site. Never having been introduced to word press, I had to familiarize myself with the site. After creating my word press I chose to link it to my personal Facebook page. I chose face book as the social media profile in which to link it to because I already had many followers on this site. Face book would be the one to attract the most attention to my word press blog. Within the word press site posts I added a link, which if clicked on would then take people to the class project page. However the link was not pasted in multiple places nor was it easily accessible. People went to my word press site and read my posts but many never made it to the class project page, therefore I was unable to generate a large amount of site traffic.Reflecting back there are many ways in which I could improve the contributions I made to the class project, and also the quality of my word press blog. My word press site was too plain and not catchy to the public eye. Now that I am more informed on how to use word press, I could make my page more eye catching by adding graphics and changing the text and colors to attract people to my page. Also I would put the link to the class page in multiple places to generate more traffic to our class page. If I would have posted more frequently on topics other than our class assignments, this could have gotten my page more viewers and also opened more opportunities to generate site traffic to the class page. Another thing that I would do differently would be to take advantage of the advertising of my page making the titles of my posts more interesting to drag people in. After the last post for the class assignment my word press will most likely be deleted because I have no further use of it. From participating in the class project I have learned that you must put time and effort into a blog in order for it to be successful and popular.
“Environmental News Network”
The website chosen to be evaluated is the ENN Environmental News Network. This site was chosen to be evaluated, because it is a very informative website on different environmental events and issues happening around the world. This news site caught my attention because the topics, which were discussed within the articles, were found interesting to me. I also noticed that the ENN site had been around for a long time, which could mean that the publishers have put a lot of time and effort into keeping up the site for a long period of time
The sites sources are a range of people agencies, groups of institutions who publish articles daily on the environment where they are located. When choosing to publish an article to their site they carefully review the content ensuring it is quality informationThe environmental News Network publishes the information, which is posted on its site in order to “Inform, educate, enable and create a platform for global environmental action.” They seek to publish stories that are critical to understanding the growing crisis of our planet. “ENN’s ultimate publishing goal is to inform, educate and inspire its audience on a daily basis, to seek and through trusted information initiate solutions to our global environmental problems and lend support to creating a sustainable, problem-free future for coming generations.”Independent facts and opinions are easily identifiable; the opinions are put into quotation marks so you can tell the difference between what is someone’s opinion on what is being discussed and what is stated as factual information. The articles on environmental issues do discuss different sides of the issue such as the article on Polar ice. The article discuses the view of how the ocean warming is causing the sea ice to melt the base of the ice shelves. Then shows a different view of the issues saying that it could also be the wind patterns, which are causing the sea ice expansion near the South Pole.In the articles, which were reviewed, the writers would refer to different outside sources to back up the information being presented by them. For example in the article “Oil Platform Effect on Fish” they refer to recent reports on the issue performed by the U.S Geological Survey. They performed these surveys to help assist the Bureau of Ocean Management in understanding what the consequences in using these oil platforms could have on the oceans environment. The information presented in the articles of this news site is all factual information the topics written about and published to the site have gone through an editing process to ensure their validity
One can tell exactly when the article had been updated; at the top of each article it gives the time and day when the article was published. The topics being discussed are recent issues happening today and also topics on issues, which have been occurring over time. The site sorts through thousands of articles sent to them to be published to their news site every day. They choose the most accurate articles and publish them within that same day.
OBGYN licensed practical nursing career
Interviewed for this project was Babette, Broussard. She works as a licensed practical OBGYN nurse. The first question asked in the interview was what a normal day in the field consisted of. She takes the patients medical history, gives injections to patients,and takes their weight and blood pressure. She Assists the doctor in any way. The most difficult part of her job, was not that it was difficult, but hard in instances when patients don’t appreciate what is being done for them. She also said that “When you have an extremely sick patient and you have helped them in every way possible and there is nothing else you can do for them to get better(Broussard).”
The most rewarding part of the job to her was that working for an OBGYN doctor you see a woman who is pregnant throughout her nine months. Then finally at the end of the nine months to watch a healthy baby be born is an amazing and satisfying sight to be able to experience. Another rewarding factor is when you have a patient who is sick come to you and leave you healthy and well. What made her want to become a nurse was that her father was an OBGYN doctor; growing up on the hospital atmosphere at a young age and working in the hospital she fell in love with the career. “My entire entire life I felt gravitated towards the medical field (Broussard).”
Some struggles faced on the job was that there was not enough time in the day. With many patients having to be tended to daily there were sometimes emergencies with certain patients, such as having to perform a C-section. Other patients were forced to wait to be tended to. This she did not like having to do making patients wait that needed attention was difficult to do. Working late shifts until seven or eight can be very tiring. She chose to be an OBGYN licensed practical nurse specifically because her father was an OBGYN doctor so getting that experience in the field helped her realize how much she enjoyed working with women and their babies.
The thing enjoyed most was that since as an OBGYN nurse you work with pregnant women, you are able to see these women throughout their pregnancies. “As an OBGYN nurse I am really able to form relationships and make connections with my patients, since they have to come to us regularly for nine months (Broussard).” Things liked least about her job, was the government and health care. The government is beginning to have a greater say in how you can and cant treat a patient. Certain health care companies do not approve certain medications. This causes her to have to prescribe a different medication to the patient. The alternative medication may not be as effective in treating the patient’s specific condition as the other medication, which could have been prescribed to them that their health care did not approve. When a patient needs medical attention but does not have enough money to pay for the medical procedure or medication in which he or she needs. This is a difficult thing to see because you want to be able to help them but there is nothing you can do.
A normal work days hours consists of going into into work around seven or eight thirty in the morning and sometimes not getting off work until seven or eight thirty that evening. How long the day will last all depends when they finish with their last patient. If she able do it all over again and go back to school would she choose the current career path for herself. The reply was “yes, I love what I do and couldn’t see myself doing anything else in life (Broussard).” With a career in any nursing field there are so many different opportunities, and being a nurse can be found to be extremely rewarding.
“Are social networks beneficial or hurtful to society?”
Over the past decade social media has up risen in society greatly. Just how much have social media sites consumed our society today? Are these sites even necessary or are the just an open gate for bullying, addiction, health problems, and pointless time wasting. Social media sites have many pros and cons, and people propose different views on whether or not they are beneficial to society or if they are mainly only hurting us and causing problems. Social media originally began in societies younger population, with the creation of MySpace. Then a whole new level of social media opened up when Facebook was created. Today over a billion people actively use Facebook. Statistics show that social media is more addicting than smoking or consuming alcohol (Social networking Statistics).
Approaching the topic of whether social media is beneficial or hurtful to society , I would choose to focus on three main social media websites. The ones in which I am most familiar with Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Supporting my thesis with facts provided by researchers on the topic. The paper would discuss both the pros and cons of social media networking. Using data to support it, such as how many people use these sites, and what they use it for. Taking a personal approach and adding some of my own experience with social media will help contribute to the research paper. By evaluating how often I use social media sites, what I use them for, will help the reader better relate to the topic of the paper (Problems with Social Media ).The research methods, which would be most effective in covering my topic and subtopics of my paper, would be a combination of primary sources, online sources, research studies, and personal interviews, also by sharing my own personal experience with social network sites.
Are social media networking sites more or less benefiting society or harming it? By asking questions such as are these sites causing health affects on the younger generation, causing increased obesity and addictions? Are they open gateways for sexual predators, and making people more susceptible to cyber bullying? Or do these sites actually benefit us as a society. By warning us of bad weather and other important news. Could they be harmful ways for people to connect and reconnect with family and friends? Using online sources, primary sources, and personal interview and experience as research methods to write the paper (Society Opinions.)
